The
Last
Enemy
|
Paul
said that death is the last enemy
that shall be destroyed. He also
said that Christ Jesus had
abolished death. In the very same
sense Mrs. Eddy declared that as
death is not a spiritual reality
or fact, it is unreal. There is
no death to God, Spirit, nor to
spiritual, immortal man.

An Introduction to Christian
Science
DEATH
References
for Study
The following passages are from the Bible (King
James Version) and the Christian Science textbook,
Science and Health with Key to the
Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.
I
Corinthians 15:22-26
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall
all be made alive. But every man in his own order:
Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are
Christ's at his coming. Then cometh the end, when
he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even
the Father; when he shall have put down all rule
and all authority and power. For he must reign,
till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The
last enemy that shall be destroyed is
death.
John
8:51
Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep
my saying, he shall never see
death.
Science
and Health, p. 251:8
In the illusion of death, mortals wake to the
knowledge of two facts: (1) that they are not dead;
(2) that they have but passed the portals of a new
belief. Truth works out the nothingness of error in
just these ways. Sickness, as well as sin, is an
error that Christ, Truth, alone can
destroy.
Science
and Health, p. 429:17
Mortals waken from the dream of death with
bodies unseen by those who think that they bury the
body.
Science
and Health, p. 74:13-21
No correspondence nor communion can exist
between persons in such opposite dreams as the
belief of having died and left a material body and
the belief of still living in an organic, material
body.
The
caterpillar, transformed into a beautiful insect,
is no longer a worm, nor does the insect return to
fraternize with or control the worm. Such a
backward transformation is impossible in
Science.
Science
and Health, p. 77:5
Existence continues to be a belief of corporeal
sense until the Science of being is reached. Error
brings its own self-destruction both here and
hereafter, for mortal mind creates its own physical
conditions. Death will occur on the next plane of
existence as on this, until the spiritual
understanding of Life is reached. Then, and not
until then, will it be demonstrated that "the
second death hath no power."
Science
and Health, p. 598:23-30
One moment of divine consciousness, or the
spiritual understanding of Life and Love, is a
foretaste of eternity. This exalted view, obtained
and retained when the Science of being is
understood, would bridge over with life discerned
spiritually the interval of death, and man would be
in the full consciousness of his immortality and
eternal harmony, where sin, sickness, and death are
unknown.
