Introduction to a Lecture JOHN C. LATHROP, CSB          Christian Science is spreading steadily throughout the world. A religion, a medicine, a Science which meets the universal need cannot fail to receive universal acceptance. The world wants to know the truth. It long has waited for that righteousness, purity, and understanding — the "Spirit of truth" — foretold by Jesus, that healing balm which is to heal all the nations. "The time of the end," prophesied by Daniel, is here and now. Said that prophet, "Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand."          Throughout the ages mortals have been taught that affliction and suffering are from God, whose will mortals must not resist. Thus fear has been engendered, and sin, disease, and death have held sway. The purpose of the lecture is to show that "the time of the end" of these errors is at hand; that is to say, that it is now within the power of every mortal to end this ignorance and to gain that understanding which will purify thought and make it white, revealing Christ's religion of true healing, or the true method of healing disease, sin, and death.   Excerpt from "The Lectures" Christian Science Sentinel, May 9, 1925
