Signs of the Times
[THE INDEPENDENT-TIMES (STREATOR, IL)]

...In an age of crass materialism it has been the gracious function of Christian Science to reaffirm the dominancy of the spiritual and prove beyond peradventure of doubt that the kingdom of heaven is within you, and conversely the kingdom of hell likewise.

The reality about any human being is not his body, not his aches and pains, not his clothes, his lands, his chattels, but his mental and moral capacity to react on all of these. It is the intangible thing that is real, the thing you cannot see, taste, or feel, that decides whether your world is to be glorious or infamous; in other words, as the Christian Scientist would say, the measure of your God consciousness is the measure of your reality, the measure of your freedom, the measure of your service to the world, the measure of your ability to be well, sound, sane, and efficient. ...The great value of the Christian Science movement in an age which has grossly overemphasized the claims of matter, is that the Scientist has cut through the morass of debasing servitude to the illusions of materialism, and reaffirmed with victorious power the transcendency of Spirit to conquer all the obstacles which threaten our harmonious development. ...
