WONDERFULLY ILLUMINED
Eighteen years ago, Science and Health was placed in my hands for the first time, and I was told that the reading of the book would cure me. I didn't believe it, as I could not see how the reading of a book could cure anyone in the condition I believed I was in, but I began to read it. The book was in two volumes at that time, and I read both and then laid it down denouncing it, and saying that it contradicted its own statements from beginning to end. My wife said it was I and not Science and Health that was jumbled up, but that statement by my wife did not change my mind in the least. I laid the book down and did not intend to read it any more, but somehow, in a very short time, I found myself again reading it, and I read it through the second time. After I had again read this wonderful book, I was very anxious to continue its study. While I was reading it the third time my apprehension was wonderfully illumined; like Paul on his way to Damascus, the scales had fallen from my eyes and I was healed. As I learned afterward the bright light that fell upon my pathway was the light which "shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not." Old things had indeed passed away and behold all things had become new. I never can be thankful enough for what Christian Science has done for me in the past eighteen years and is still doing for me everyday. I am also very thankful to our dear Leader for showing us the way of salvation, as the great Master taught his disciples. William H. H. Benford
