A STORM
STILLED
The psalmist sang, "The Lord on
high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than
the mighty waves of the sea." Several years ago an earnest
student of the Bible and the Christian Science textbook
witnessed a scene where sudden tempest seemed imminent, and
there appeared to be great danger. Clinging to her
understanding of the truth as taught in Christian Science,
she mentally battled with her sense of despair within and of
destructive elements without that was well-nigh
overpowering. Lifting her thought above the discordant
scenes of earth to the eternal reality of being, a cry went
out to the Christ, "Lord, save us: we perish." . . . The
false sense of confusion and disaster was rebuked. The
"Peace, be still" had been spoken, and the discordant
picture was soon superseded by a glimpse of the real
universe which she can never forget. All outward
manifestation of a storm ceased almost immediately; and
there was a great calm, as one heart at least was freed for
a time from the thralldom of physical sense.
