HEALING OF ILLNESS
Some years ago I was attacked by a malady of which I cannot give the name, as it was never diagnosed; but the symptoms were intense internal pain, so severe that it often caused the tears to run down my face. The attacks were sometimes brief, sometimes lengthy. More or less for twelve months I struggled with this, and during the time had the help of two practitioners, who did all they could to help me; but neither their kindly efforts nor my own did more than to alleviate the suffering for the moment.
About this time certain circumstances of a very unsatisfactory nature arose tempting me to believe in the reality of some power which was not of God, culminating in a letter which I received one morning containing news both inharmonious and unexpected. After reading the letter I exclaimed aloud, "I have not loved my enemies enough." I thereupon took the two Concordances and all Mrs. Eddy's works and applied myself to a study of this subject. One of the first passages I noted was on page 228 of Science and Health: "There is no power apart from God. Omnipotence has all-power, and to acknowledge any other power is to dishonor God." I studied the whole day and never thought of my physical condition. That night I fell asleep with a sense that the light had begun to dawn upon me. I slept soundly, a thing I had not done for months, and awakened next morning absolutely and completely well; nor have I ever had the slightest trace of that illness since that day. For this proof of the practical availability of Christian Science as taught by our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, I am most grateful, and I can truly say that her inspired writings are gradually transforming my whole life.
