PARALYSIS
HEALED
I did not know at the time, eight
years ago, why I took up Christian Science, for I was led to
buy the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the
Scriptures," almost as soon as I had heard the name; but
when I found on further study that my childhood prayer to be
able to heal the sick as Jesus did was answered, my joy knew
no bounds. Through the unfoldment to me of God as
Father-Mother, as revealed in Christian Science, I was
enabled to meet the needs of my two little girls from the
time the younger was eight months old until they were placed
in the care of a loving Christian Scientist, two years
later. The way they turn to God for help is beautiful. One
morning, when the younger child wakened with what those in
the house who were not interested in Christian Science
called infantile paralysis, she could only say, "Read to
me." I read to her almost all day from Science and Health.
When evening came a smile suddenly appeared, and in fifteen
minutes she jumped down on to the floor, laughing happily,
and was free. Last winter she was quickly healed of acute
lung trouble, being downstairs the fourth day.
When I contemplate the
unceasing toil of the gentle woman, Mrs. Eddy, through whose
purity we are enabled to know God as Mother, the gift of the
printed word in her works and our other literature, the
unselfish work of teachers and practitioners, the privilege
of class instruction, and all the channels provided for
worthwhile activity, I too can say with the psalmist, "I was
glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the
Lord." Greater happiness and deeper joy than I ever deemed
possible have come to me through Christian Science, and I am
deeply grateful to all those whose pioneer work has enabled
us to follow the way of salvation, so plainly marked
out.
