"Our
Father-Mother God"

One
Sunday morning last spring, while the juvenile Sunday school
class was assembled in our little circle, the thought was
expressed that it was "Mother's Day." Among the children
present were a little brother and sister whose earthly
parents had passed away, and as the eyes of these two dear
ones met, instantly they began to fill with tears; then the
children folded their arms around each other. I felt I must
have the little girl close beside me, while I reflected all
the love I could to the little boy, her brother. We
commenced the class work at once by repeating, "Our Father
which art in heaven," with its spiritual interpretation
which begins on page 16 of "Science and Health with Key to
the Scriptures." As the little girl repeated, "Our
Father-Mother God, all-harmonious," the children's eyes met
again, but the tears had vanished, and they could see that
divine Love was both Father and Mother, and this led up to
the closing statement: "God is infinite, all-power, all
Life, Truth, Love, over all, and All." All present seemed to
grasp the meaning of this beautiful, inspired interpretation
clearly, peacefully, quietly, and so understandingly. The
little ones' faces were illumined, for we all felt and
realized that man lives in Love and that this understanding
of Love vanquishes all belief in death. As I walked home I
wished that every orphan boy and girl the world over could
understand what we had reached that morning, and that the
white blossoms of new hope would spring up and prove to them
that, as Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, p. 336), "God
is the parent Mind, and man is God's spiritual
offspring."
