HEALTH, PEACE, AND HAPPINESS FOUND
A few months later I was visiting some friends when suddenly they said how sick my little girl looked and insisted that I had better get a doctor. I tried to apply the truth, but fear crept in and finally I took the child in my arms and carried her to my home. She was stiff and I could not hear a breath, and as I reached home I prayed to know what to do. Instantly the thought came to go to the lady next door, so crying and trembling I took the child to her and asked her to help me. She told me to be calm, that God is our Life, and instantly my little girl raised herself up in my arms, smiling. This at first frightened me very much, as I thought it was the end, but in a few minutes I was all right and we both walked out of that home rejoicing and knowing that God is the only power. I too have had many healings. One day the practitioner asked me why I wore glasses, and on being told that my eyes were weak I could not see without them, she answered that some day I would not need them. On reaching home I tried to read Science and Health without them but the words were in a blur. I kept on trying, however, and in a few days could read perfectly. The best specialists had said I would always need to have treatments and must wear glasses, and I had worn them for seventeen years, but I have perfect sight now and can read and sew at night, which I would never attempt before. Through reading Science and Health I have also been healed of catarrh of the nose and throat, supposed to have been inherited. Doctors had said there was no help for me. When I first went to church I was told to read the hymn on page 168 of the Hymnal, wherein are the words: Where darkest clouds have been. At the time I thought that Christian Science was wonderful if it could bring about such a change, but this is what it has done in my home. Where discordant conditions had full sway and sickness prevailed around me, now we have health, peace, and happiness. I am grateful for all our periodicals, and very grateful to Mrs. Eddy, who so faithfully has given this beautiful religion which teaches us to know God as a present help in every need. I thank God for leading me to this truth that does make free. Emelie M. Hanson
